Proof of vaccination

I am delighted that the county will be opening public facilities this week (“County gyms, community centers to reopen Monday,” Tribune-Herald, Oct. 31).

I hope that the county will realize this is a golden opportunity to help end the COVID-19 pandemic by requiring that all those admitted to county facilities or to sports events will need to show proof of vaccination.

My wife and I are fully vaccinated, but we do not wish to mingle with the anti-vaxxers among us. Although we might be protected ourselves, we know that we could be contaminated by others and could transmit the virus to others.

Governments impose many requirements to protect public health (smoking and driver’s license age requirements, attendance at schools, etc). Requiring vaccinations, as is being done on Oahu, will protect us all.

If some do not wish to be vaccinated, that is their right — but they do not have the right to infect others.

Distasteful cartoon

Wow. Just wow! Your political cartoon with “KKK Youngkin” (Commentary, Nov. 4) is distasteful and not even truth! There’s always two sides to every issue. Why not research some more on the integrity of the other candidate!

Cartoon ‘dishonest’

Thursday’s cartoon (Commentary, Nov. 4) is a dishonest slander against the majority of Virginia voters who chose a Republican governor, Republican lieutenant governor and a Republican attorney general.

When Atlantic writer Jamele Hill tweeted a sentiment similar to your cartoonist’s about Virginia voters, saying, “It’s not the messaging, folks. This country simply loves white supremacy,” Lieutenant Governor-elect Winsome Sears’ team replied, “We beg to differ,” along with a picture of her, which puts the lie to both Hill’s and your cartoonist’s racist blood libel.
